UK CS Scene.

Right here i am writing an article on the uk scene. Frankly i dont know where to start.

Basically, to give you an impression of where i am going with this, if i cud throw petrol on the uk cs community and light it i would. Yer you probably think thats a bit harsh, so ill explain

why i think as i do.

As you probably know i did work for CSGN (Counter-Strike Gaming Network). note the phrase 'i did'. ive decided after speanding allmost all of my spare time (which i dont have a lot of

being final year at college, working part time & my clan) working on CSGN i sat down after reading some of the comments on UKTerrorist and IRC and thought... "Why do i bother". i mean

here is some samples, ive took the names out but anyone who has read the csgn articles will probably know who they are:

"Nah, no one wants to pay to play in some n00b competition thats all. CPL is free and plenty of people play in it."

i mean come on. the word retard springs to mind.

"CSGN Is s***, why should i pay for this when i can play for free in clanbase etc."

... no comment

I can't be bothered to siv through my irc logs to find all of the comments people have made but basically, its disgusting. Here we are putting so much effort to do something for a

deteriorating cs-scene only to get it thrown back in my face.

Basically i wish obsidian the best of luck with CSGN, but i really dont know what is making him carry on.

This article isn't just about CSGN. thats just one small event that encouraged me to write this.

My next is clans in general. and before you start crying this isn't all clans, it probably isn't your clan but its the odd few that disgust me. once again i wont name names but you can

probably guess the clans which are like this.

i couldn't agree more about everything he has said on there. Basically hes talking about the 'who the f*** are you to comment' attitude you get from a lot of people, as no doubt i am

going to get in the comments after this article but to be honest, i couldn't care less.

Another thing that greatly annoys me is the way some clans think there pr0 and talk to other people as if they are s*** on there shoe. I can name half a dosen clans at least which are like

this, that simply dis-own you, and talk to other people like s*** becuase they live in there own little world where they are #1.

The attitude of clans in general is just disgusting, the way you get called a cheat if you win, or you get called a n00b if you loose makes me think, why bother. I personally think in the last

10 or 12 games ive been a part of, 1 clan at the most was actaully a good opponant who enjoyed the game without whining etc. 1 out of 12...

Far too many clans are up their own arse basically.

It really dosen't surprise me why decent clans (4k, bullet etc) dont bother to play UK Clans any more. there a waste of time (95% of them are).

This community, if you wanna call it that needs to sort itself out.im sure im not the only person who is sick of it.

People need to learn the word sportsmanship and they we be alright, if people did what they do on cs in a football match they'd get a well deserved smack in the jaw, unfortunately on cs that ain't possible. I played a gather yesterday, went afk during the warmup for about 3 mins and came back to some kid telling me to "F$%K YOUR MOTHER JUNKS!!!".... nice. He then went on to abuse me over comms so I left. This sort of behaviour is par for the course nowadays. But saying that, there are some really nice ppl out there too, more than enough to make the scene thrive imo, its just the other lot that can get u down. 	deebo Mel Gibson UKTerrorist 09:38 19/2/2003	Its for similar reasons I think what the CAL is doing ( banning players who pubicly diss the organizers ) is correct. While it may be harsh and even extreme ( freedom of speech etc ) but there has to be a line somewhere and someone HAS to start drawing it. Players and teams can't keep on doing what they are doing - basically anything they like - forever. I think too many people frown down on the UK CS Scene TOO much sometimes though. Sure other countries have more than 2 top class teams, but there is probably loads of 'lame' teams as well. [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]
	Slim 10:29 19/2/2003	This isnt exactly anything new, 99.9% of upcoming clans in the uk have some sort of tosspot "attitude", iam pro and you are all noobs etc. and who seemingly fold after there first pcw - due the other members being noobs, the other clan wallhacking, or perhaps the fact they are pro and they cant be beat. I guess it's been around since the day that the very first beta of cs was released, so it looks like were are going to have to live with it until the end... although your point are valid you have to come to the facts that most of the people who lead/are members of these clans are 12yr old geeks with pre pubecesant (spelling :S) anger, coupled with this bulls*** "pro" attitude. 	DooMeh Lite 11:47 19/2/2003	isnt clanbase starting to put in place some rules whereby you get more points for being nice or something, well whatever it is its a step in the right direction. 	phonics 23:29 19/2/2003	most decent players have what u would call a bad atitude about loosing to people who they see as lesser players (i played with sk.burnie in a gather and 1v1 before he gave up cs and he whined a lot, but was a nice guy appart from that). Its just that peopel are more willing to ignore and forgive those who are at a higher level. If you just look at footballers atitudes can be the same with complaints and excuses about loosing (however true or false). Online arguments/abuse occur more easily because u dont have to actualy be face to face with the person or ever speak to them irl so you can insult them and abuse them as much as you like because you dont give a f*** what they think or feel; always has been this and always will be (this refering to random strangers not people u play with regular/lan etc). We moan and moan about everybody being immature, but hey, guess what? They ARE immature. Very few (especially clan-level) CSers are >20 or female. So why not treat them like that? If you're going to get sensitive about a few vague insults ("n00b league"? So was my league, but hey, it mattered to those that played in it), don't bother in the first place. Not everyone is going to be your friend just because you try to give them something. You had clans interested (although clearly not enough, apparently), so what do a few critiscisms mean? Hey, maybe you could actually talk to those people, and see why your idea has been ignored by so many. Instead of b***hing about the UK CS scene (which, btw, I've got no problem with). Oh, and as a side-note, £640 cash pot between 16 (was it?) teams would have left quite a few clans at a loss just going to your LAN. Hell it's costing me nearly £50 to go to a friendly LAN this weekend (not UKT unfotunately :[ ). Maybe some of them didn't see the point of paying just to go out after a few meaningless online games. 	AL!CAT 12:08 20/2/2003	PCW's in UK scene is what kills it. Clans are scared to play PCW's against decent clans as in the UK it is regarded as a full scale match. If you win it goes on your topic, your website and basically publicised thouroughly. Clans need to be able to play Practice wars without the pressure to practice tactics etc. As for CSGN its just another ladder trying to overthrow CB. Ladders will never work, fact. If you win 3 games in a row no1 will play you. Personally i thought BWCSL picked up this season but now theres a £60 price tag which i still havent worked out were that goes. Personally if you want ladders matches should be forced, maybe even 2 divisions like ED, but ladders will always attract newer clans and this needs to be dealt with or the standard of teams will detiriate rapidly. The only place good online teams, in my eyes teams like kensai, O:i etc that are on there way to the top can practice is in leagues like BWCSL. These UKT LAN's are also a great oppurtunity but why can't we have an online league with this sorta standard of play. Obviously 4K, omg! etc won't play but it would still attract alot of skilled online teams. [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]

After playing at a no fakenick community gamers.nu where you have to pay to play which protects you from Whineing, fakenicks and general homophobic behaviour.. you go onto a Pub server under your real name then someone fakenicks and starts abusing you.. For what people pay good money putting these servers up and no-life's just join them. Also in the gather channels, you want to play a decent gather and someone comes on letting off mags of AK clips and running when everyone else is walking. And generally being a lamer. solution would be a gaming community where you pay 2 play like gamers.nu where there are gags in place and well admined servers plus paying to play you dont really wanna be lame and lose your Privilages [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]
